Ants infested apartment!

I'm not usually the type of person to write a negative review, but our stay at My Address in Plaza Real was pretty terrible. We quickly found the property is infested with Ants and would enter through the walls, baseboards, and door cracks (see pictures). We found ants in our bags and other personal belongings within 12 hours of our stay. The property manager, Miriyam, was far from helpful. She was told of the problem and denied any wrong doing, stating that the ants came from outside and would solve the problem by sealing the door, even though there are clear pictures of ants coming from multiple entry points. Further, she stated that it was the first time it has ever happened, even though there are ant traps present along with ant killing spray on the premise. She refused to offer a refund, help with reaccommodation, or reimburse for the property that was damaged from the ants. Ants were present throughout our stay, forcing us to frequently sweep the floors and spray pesticides to minimize their impact- far from what anyone should expect in a hotel. Be very cautious with this listing. The lower price point and central location can be attractive, however, you will be sacrificing your well being throughout your stay. Also- the stair situation is not to be ignored. It is about 10 flights of stairs through narrow passage ways. I would not recommend to anyone who is in poor physical fitness.

We stayed at My Address in Barcelona--an apartment at Plaza Reial which is a great location. It's near La Rambala with many food and shopping options. The young lady who helped us in and out was delightful and strong!  The only way to this apartment is 100 steps up a dark and very worn staircase--which is likely 100+ years old. These stairs are ok if you're fit with little luggage--however--we were not so fit, and we were en route to a two-week cruise traveling heavy. The young lady helped us by carrying our biggest bags (half her weight) with multiple trips up the stairs.    We stayed here for 4 nights, and organized our days to go down in the morning, and back up at night. Once in the apartment, there were another 10 steps up to the bedroom area, then out onto a patio. We had a nice panorama of Barcelona. However, the attached photo of La Sagrada Familia was magnified a lot. Also good was that the A/C was cold and the hot water was hot. The pillow on each narrow bed was thin and flat.   After this experience, we've decided a full-fledged hotel is important to us. There was a sign asking us to bag our trash and then take it down the steps to a bin on the street--however the young lady did that for us, And the picture at the time of booking misrepresented the access to an adjacent patio.   We won't be back, but if you're healthy, young, and love stairs in a great location, this may be for you.

Watch out the invoice! I have paid 145€ of Security Deposit and they have never given them back to me. They said, that it was cleaning costs, but as you can see from the pictures, it’s clearly stated “deposit” in the invoice, so it should have been given back (we didn’t break anything)

At 12:30 am we heard a knock on our door , and it was someone telling us that they were the police. We obviously did not open the door straight away, but decided to check if there was a police car outside which there wasn’t. One of the girls staying in the apartment called the police to ask if they had sent an officer to the apartment, and they replied with a no and told us not to open the door. As we were gathering this information the people/ person was getting more and more viscous and was banging on the door. Then he ran for the door and tried to break it open. He used his own sets of keys to try to get in to the apartment. We knew it was the night guard when he took his keys out. Then 5 of the girls staying in the property ran to scream for help on the balcony. We called the 24 hour service and the police for help. The other 7 girls were holding the door shut. Then the door man came out of the property and lifted his hands up as if to say what is happening, and the people trying to help out side of the property called us stupid and told us to go back to bed. But while the doorman was downstairs there was still knocking and banging on the door. So it was definitely more than just the doorman. Then the police came and they didn’t understand english. It was the hardest as the night guard was talking in spanish to the police and telling them we were making too much noise and thats why he was knocking on the door. He then went on to say that we were not responding to him and thats why he was trying to get in. The police then told us they were going to leave without even listening to us. Then i had to google translate and explain that the night guard unlocked the door and ran to push it open. I also showed them a video of the whole situation which i had taken to prove to them. The girls were traumatised and were crying so much. This is not a safe apartment. We were all screaming so loud but no other residents in the apartment tried to help and they just ignored it. The police then understood us and gave us a report. We then packed our bags in 10 minutes and left with the police straight to the airport. This was at 3 am in the morning. We booked a new flight and thank god we are home and safe. Please be safe if you have booked this apartment, and i would definitely not recommend for anyone to stay here.

Stayed in one of the apartments here when visiting Barcelona with a large group of friends. The apartment was very spacious with a large dining room/living room area as well as a fully equipped kitchen with cooker, fridge, freezer, oven appliances and utensils. Apartment came with 3 bathrooms which suited our large group very well and although the decor was a bit dated, they were kept in a clean condition. Most of the communal spaces and bedrooms were fitted with an air conditioning unit and the two bedrooms at the front of the building had nice balconies allowing us to have a nice view over the street. The location was fantastic making it easy to walk to many places (Gothic Quarter and Las Ramblas about 10 mins away). The nearest metro station was less than a 5 minute walk away and it took about 30-40 minutes to walk to the beach. One thing I would say is that this is very much a family place to stay. The apartment block has a silence past 10pm rule which did cause a few problems with our group of 20/21 year-olds as there were a few evenings of our stay where we wanted to go out and so caused some noise on leaving and arriving back. There were a few times when the night security guard would ring the bell to the apartment and tell us to be quiet as soon as it had gone 10pm. Overall a good stay in an apartment that is fairly basic but still met our needs.
